Core Charts Explained

What are Core Chart Worksheets and how do I use them?

"Core Charts" are what we call the data tables at the heart of each lesson in Threads of History. These worksheets provide students an opportunity for a much more direct and complete interaction with the Core Charts. They can be used before or after students have completed the lesson. Simply have students complete the charts on their own, or display them and complete the chart together as a class.

Two versions of each chart are available here - blank and partial. The partial worksheets include data for some of the cells in each table. These will provide students with an example to guide them in completing the blank cells. The completely blank charts will be much harder for students to complete, and therefore might be better suited as a follow-up activity to the corresponding lesson.

You should also consider these worksheets a diagnostic tool: where students struggle to compete areas of the chart, further study/instruction is needed.

Our sincere thanks to Connie Hines, who has been using this idea with her students and teaching it in her AP summer workshops for years before the idea occured to us. Connie was a strong influence in the shaping of the new 3rd edition.
